Jaipur Metro Phase-2: Building the City Around the Corridor
Great cities are built around their transport spines. As a Jaipur-based entrepreneur, I read the approval of Jaipur Metro Phase-2 as more than a transport project. It is an invitation to plan how the city will live, shop, work and move for the next thirty years.
The project
The Union Cabinet approved Jaipur Metro Phase-2 on 8 April 2026, at a cost reported as about INR 13,037.66 crore. It is a 41 km north-south corridor from Prahladpura to Todi Mod with 36 stations, serving areas including Sitapura Industrial Area, the airport, Tonk Road and SMS Hospital. Completion is targeted for September 2031, and the Prime Minister virtually laid the foundation stone in early July 2026, according to reports.
Where opportunities may arise
- Real estate and commercial leasing near stations.
- Logistics and last-mile services for the industrial belt.
- Retail, food and hospitality around transit hubs.
- Construction, equipment and technical services during the build.
- Digital services such as ticketing, advertising and mobility apps.
What to do now
Track station locations, tenders and land-use plans from the metro corporation and the state government. Prepare registrations, approvals and financing early, and watch the compliance rules for construction and signage. Public projects reward the businesses that are ready on the day the opportunity is announced, not the day after.
The Chairman's takeaway
Do not wait for the stations to open. Plan your location, your funding and your approvals now, and think of the corridor as a catchment for customers, talent and partners.
